Dorothy’s Candies of White Oak, PA has been making premium Swiss chocolates since 1947. We are the exclusive chocolatier to the Pittsburgh Opera, and have been twice featured at the Academy Awards. But our renown grew by word-of-mouth, one household at a time. Today, many families across the USA count on Dorothy’s Candies as a tradition for family get-togethers.

Dorothy’s Candies begins with the richest Swiss chocolate. Swiss chocolate is higher in cocoa solids. Cocoa butter gives chocolate that special mouth-feel that only Swiss chocolate delivers. We not only use richer chocolate – we use more of it! Since 1947, Dorothy’s has been hand-made the old-fashioned way – swirled on marble slabs by artisan Choclatiers. For chocolate lovers, this means, thicker chocolate, and more of it! Our hand-dipped nut clusters are loaded with fresh nut chunks. The same is true of our fruits –snap into a bite of real pineapple glace. We even cordial or own cherries by hand on the premises – a dying art! But, of course, a box of chocolates also needs confections – the luscious, old fashioned kind with velvety centers. All of our recipes were designed by Dorothy herself. Dorothy Gastel began selling chocolates she made in the basement of her home in 1947. Prior to that, she enjoyed making chocolates, and giving them away as gifts. As more and more people tasted her chocolates, demand grew! Even with Dorothy’s astounding, generous heart, she could not keep giving the chocolates away, so she created Dorothy’s Candies. Dorothy’s Candies has since grown exponentially – and we now have customers across the USA. This success is definitely due to Dorothy’s fabulous recipes, commitment to quality and excellence, and love of beautiful presentation. Today, Dorothy’s son, Robert, along with his wife, Marti, continue to run the business with Dorothy’s principles in mind.
