Assorted Chocolates

Combinations that work well on so many Levels

Assorted chocolates are to chocolates what supergroups are to music. These collections of some of the most famous and exquisite flavors in the world come in one box. It’s like having Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin and The Rolling Stones performing together in one mega concert. That’s exactly what a collection of Assorted chocolates represents, divinity in a box, plain and simple.

Everyone knows about the popular combinations of assorted chocolates. There are so many different flavors and all are equally loved. Then there are certain flavors that are unique, flavors that take the entire chocolate experience up a notch or two.

Here are some assorted chocolate combinations that never fail to tickle the taste buds. The following should be on your playlist when going for chocolates.

Praline Chocolate – Mirror Ball (Pearl Jam & Neil Young)

Imagine two powerhouses from two different genres coming together to collaborate on one album – it’s a musical treat! Pearl Jam and folk legend Neil Young did us all a huge favor by releasing Mirror Ball in 1995. The collaboration album was a huge success and was certified gold. Similarly Praline and Chocolate are heavyweights in their own right, but together you get the best of both worlds.

Praline is used as a filling in a lot of wonderful delicacies around the world. The most common praline is a mixture of nuts and ground powder. Americans version consists of cream and milk, whereas Belgians make it in liquid form. In France, it is a combination of caramelized sugar and almonds. Praline in any form is exquisite and with chocolate, its combination is just perfect.

Lemon Chocolate – The Face of Love (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Eddie Vedder)

Qawwali legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder collaborated for the song, The Face of Love, for the soundtrack of the movie, Dead Man Walking. Khan’s serene vocals were complimented by Vedder’s grungy voice to produce a brilliant concoction of sweet and sour. Much like how chocolates and lemons would go together.

Lemon has been a part of our diet for centuries now. From lemonades to tarts, this incredible little fruit has been a key component in our diets. But did you know that it can be used in assorted chocolate as well?

Assorted Chocolate on the outside with a lemon center is a rare but a refreshing combination. The blend of sweet and sour offers a delicious balance that will awaken your senses. And the fact lemon is very helpful in removing acne and blackheads, just adds to why a lemon chocolate is a must have.

Raspberry Chocolate –The Saints Are Coming – Green Day & U2

One should never underestimate the power of collaborations, even if they are unusual. Arena rock juggernauts U2 and punk band Green Day proved it. When they collaborated on The Saints Are Coming after Hurricane Katrina had just ravaged the country, the entire world took notice. Quite similarly, raspberry and chocolate might seem like an unusual combination, but once you taste them together, you will sit up and take notice.

Raspberries are among the most under appreciated – much like Green Day – yet healthiest fruits in the world. They are a rich source of fiber and do not contain a lot of calories and saturated fats. The fruity tartness of fresh raspberries surrounded by chocolate is a delicious combination. Enjoy a luscious, raspberry infused assorted chocolate experience and you’ll be rooting for this underdog in no time.

Cherries Chocolate – Beautiful Liar (Beyonce & Shakira)

Cherries and chocolates. Beyonce and Shakira. It really is the perfect combination. The two leading ladies of the music industry collaborated in 2007 for the song Beautiful Liar. The result was an unforgettable blend of Shakira’s Latin roots and Beyonce’s contemporary R&B.

Cherry inside a chocolate, preferably dark chocolate, is a combination too delicious to turn down. The health benefits are enormous since cherries are among the world’s top antioxidants enriched foods. The two flavors complement each other and it’s an ideal case where opposites attract and love wins.

Mint Chocolates – While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Eric Clapton & The Beatles)

Mint adds that extra “oomph” to chocolate. It’s refreshing, yet doesn’t take away the essence of chocolate. Quite similarly, Eric Clapton’s contribution to The Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps was a refreshing addition, but didn’t take anything away from the composition. Listening to his solo was the same as taking a bite of mint chocolate.

Chocolates with mint filling are loved by everyone. But what if you swap the two ingredients; smooth filling of chocolate with hard mint coating is unbeatable. The blend of mint infused with the finest chocolate offers an intense experience. Keeping in mind that mint is also great at improving digestion, selecting these sweet treats is an absolute no brainer.

So the next time you get your box of assorted chocolates, give this a try this. Open the box, don’t look at that piece of paper that explains what flavor the assorted chocolates are and just start eating. The key here is to pleasantly surprise your taste buds. It’s the same as putting your Ipod on shuffle. Where’s the fun in knowing the future, it just robs you of the present.
