Although botanically a Forastero type, Ecuador's Nacional Arriba is famous for its fine taste. Sub-species without the fine taste have been planted on some plantations. Coppeneur Chocolate
In 2006 Coppeneur became one of only a handful of chocolate makers who create premium single plantation and premium single origin chocolate. Coppeneur purchases cocoa beans directly from the farmer. This close relationship ensures Coppeneur visits the plantations, allowing for inspection of the beans, cultivation methods, fermentation/drying techniques and working conditions of the employees.
