The Palace of Fine Arts was built for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915, and is the last, glorious vestige of San Francisco's only world's fair. Surrounded by an emerald-green park and duck pond, the colonnaded Palace dome is a unique sentinel to visitors driving into San Francisco from the Golden Gate Bridge.
Fishing boats sail out from Fisherman's Wharf into San Francisco Bay before sunrise and return in the afternoon with a cargo that often goes straight from the boat to boiling cauldrons of water.
